NASHVILLE – Vanderbilt’s incoming 2018 recruiting class has been ranked No. 2 nationally by Baseball America, the publication announced Wednesday.
The 14-member class features six pitchers and eight position players who will vie for positions this fall. The mark extends Vanderbilt’s record streak of ranked recruiting classes to 14 and comes a season after the Dores collected the country’s top class.
Six of the incoming freshmen are on the 2018 BA500, which ranks the best 500 players in the draft class. Baseball America tabbed LSU as having the nation’s top class while Vanderbilt, Florida State, Louisville and Florida rounded out the Top 5.
New pitchers include Austin Becker, Chance Huff, Luke Murphy, Kumar Rocker, Ethan Smith and Mackenzie Stills. Incoming position players are Sterling Hayes, Matt Hogan, Dominic Keegan, Tate Kolwych, John Malcom, Justyn-Henry Malloy, Cam McMillan and Isaiah Thomas.
The class consists of players from 10 different states, including three from Tennessee as well as a pair each from Florida and Georgia. Other states represented include California, Kansas, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York and Ohio.
