Started all three games for the Commodores over the weekend, going 5-for-10 with five RBI and the team’s lone home run in series victory at San Diego.
Belted his first home run and the team’s first on Friday, launching a two-run shot off the left field foul pole in Vandy’s 8-2 victory.
Opened his sophomore season by matching a career-best with two hits on Thursday night.
Posted his second two-hit game of the weekend in Sunday’s win, going 2-for-3 and equaling a career-high with three RBI.

Freshman and Pitcher of the Week Nominee

Drake Fellows, RHP, 6-5, 205, Plainfeld, Ill.

Dominated San Diego in his collegiate debut with six scoreless innings to earn his first career win and clinch series for Vanderbilt.
Scattered just two hits and struck out five while allowing only one walk.
Allowed his first hit in the third inning and responded by striking out the side.
Did not allow a base runner past second base and allowed only two Toreros to reach second base.
Became just the second true freshman pitcher under Coach Corbin at Vanderbilt to earn opening weekend start and first since Tyler Beede in 2012.

Commodore Notes
No. 7 Vanderbilt opened the 2017 season by taking two-of-three on the road at San Diego… The series shifted up a day to avoid a rainy forecast, beginning on Thursday night with the Toreros rallying from behind to win the opener 3-2… Junior Kyle Wright took the loss despite allowing just three runs on four hits over five innings… Jeren Kendall and Julian Infante each had two hits in the loss with Will Toffey driving in both Vandy runs… Friday’s game time was also moved up with the two teams beginning in the afternoon and playing six innings before rain suspended the game with the Commodores leading 8-2… The two teams finally resumed the game on Sunday afternoon with VU finishing off the 8-2 victory… Alonzo Jones led the way reaching base four times, with three hits and a walk while matching a career-high with three runs… Julian Infante belted the team’s first home run of the season with a two-run shot… Patrick Raby earned the win with five scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and striking out four… The Commodores clinched the series later on Sunday behind freshman Drake Fellows… The big right-hander dominated in his collegiate debut, scattering two hits over six scoreless innings with five strikeouts for his first career win… Julian Infante matched his career-high with three RBI with Ethan Paul also driving in three in the win… Freshman JJ Bleday drove in a pair of runs and Jeren Kendall knocked in two with his second triple of the weekend… The Commodores return home to Hawkins Field this week to host four games beginning on Wednesday against Evansville and then hosting UIC for a three-game series over the weekend.
