Vanderbilt is heading into 2016 with big aspirations of a bowl bid. The first thing that Vandy will have to do to improve on their four win 2015 season is find an identity. After talking with 2nd team all-SEC linebacker Zach Cunningham a few weeks ago, it’s going to start with setting the tone with the defense.
“For us it’s been about all of us coming together, being about the work, being about the program and buying into the system that he’s built for us,” Cunningham said. “That’s been a big part about what this camp as been about.”

Derek Mason took over the play calling for the defense a season ago and things started to change for the better. Vandy finished the year 28th in the county in team defense and 6th in 3rd down conversion percentage.
Vanderbilt starts their season Thursday night in Nashville as they host the South Carolina Gamecocks at 7pmCT on ESPN.
