When: Friday November 11th, 2017, 8:30 p.m., SEC Network +
Site: Memorial Gymnasium – Nashville, TN
The 2017 edition of the Vanderbilt Commodore Men’s Basketball team kicks off their season under second-year Head Coach Bryce Drew. After a resurgent second half of the 2016 season, the Commodores were defeated by Northwestern in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.
The Commodores return key cogs Riley LaChance, Matthew Fisher-Davis, and Jeff Roberson, along with spark plug Joe Toye. Entering the contest against Austin Peay the Commodores are looking to make history as the only team to sink a three-point basket in 1,000 straight games.
The Commodores will break in transfer Larry Austin Jr. and Saben Lee as new faces in the backcourt, as Sophomore Peyton Willis looks to garner more of a combo guard role in 2017.
The Commodores pose questions in the front court, as Clevon Brown, Djery Baptiste, and Freshman Ejike Obinna provide energy, but are inexperienced.
Freshman Maxwell Evans looks to be a jolt of energy off the bench entering his freshman season, while Division II transfer Yanni Wetzell starred. As a sophomore, he averaged 15.5 points and 6.8 rebounds at St. Mary’s University. In addition, Notre Dame transfer Matt Ryan must sit out the upcoming season.
Tip-off is set for 8:30 p.m. inside Memorial Gym against Austin Peay.
